I am going to be attending a University course in web design next year, but I wish to specialse in the coding/scripting part of the trade. I’m going to spend the summer self teaching some scripting languages, is ruby on rails a good place to start?
Also, if you are a web developer would you recommend it as a good career choice? I’m still debating whether to carry on into web design, or attend a computer science course instead. Your help is very much appreciated.
Ruby on Rails should be good, same goes for Django, Joomla! and PHP. The most general of those might be PHP. Web development is pretty safe – if you’re competent, you’ll likely get work after you’ve finished your degree.
